This weekend we headed with my Mum and Aunt June for a weekend in County Durham, visiting Barnard Castle, Bishop Auckland and the City of Durham. The main reason for the trip was to take the kids to the live outdoor stage show KYNREN which charts the history of England in a 90 minute outdoor live production featuring over 1,000 actors, horses, sheep and geese!
Barnard Castle - made use of our English Heritage membership and visited this 12th Century Castle ruins where Richard the III lived.
KYNREN at Bishop Auckland (and yes it rained for 90% of the show!!!)
Drowned rats, but thank goodness for the KYNREN Ponchos....
Locomotion in Sheldon - one of the oldest ever rail lines and the largest collection of historic trains. They also had a vintage bus show on at the same time so we got to hop on a few vintage double deckers... Some serious "Trainspotting" activities at this fantastic museum.
Durham - Durham Cathedral and University
The cloisters and Cathedral are the filming location for a couple of Harry Potter movies and so were a must-see this weekend, However Durham is a beautiful City we will be back to for a longer visit soon...
