Just over 3 weeks until the big 28km hike in the Lake District to raise money for Dementia UK and we've been trying to put in the miles this week. We started off Sunday with a nice flat 12km walk across Morecambe Bay from Arnside to Grange-over-Sands with the kids. It was on our bucket list for the year, given the uniqueness of the sands over Morecambe Bay, and so we were very pleased to secure spaces on one of the very popular King's Guide's walks across the shifting sands and estuaries. The kids did brilliantly and we completed the crossing over the sands and through the water in around 2.5 hours.
For Josie and I the cross bay walk was just the warm up act and on Tuesday we headed back into the Lakes and on to the route we would doing in the 28km challenge. We started this time at the finish line in Ambleside and headed to Troutbeck and then up the Garburn Pass towards Kentmere. This route was far from flat, with nothing but up and down from the off. We hiked around 20km round trip and given the heat were well and truly knackered by the end, but god it felt good!!! A few sore muscles followed but roll on the 28km hike. We've already raised nearly $750 so far so a big THANK YOU to everyone who has sponsored us. Just Giving page.
The kids also had plenty of fun this week, enjoying rock climbing, bowling and Wild Trail forest adventures with friends Connor and Charlie as a belated Birthday celebration for Ben as we spent his actual birthday in Paris and his other birthday party was a family affair with Nanna, Grandad and Aunt June...
