We hired a VW T6 Campervan (long wheel base, high top - a more modern version of our beloved Cherry) and headed off to the Solway Peninsula in North Cumbria to the Solfest music and arts festival. What a great experience for the kids, camping in a field with 10,000 Geordies and Cumbrians (mum what did that person say!), festival weather (it was surprisingly glorious), festival food (surprisingly reasonable), festival toilets (unsurprisingly gross by day 3), live music that perforates your eardrums and shakes your internal organs when you get too close to the speakers, DJ tents that still play drum and bass at max volume at 4am! (who needs sleep), young British people who have drank too much or consumed too many drugs, improv and arts, bean burgers, incense, yoga and healing in the hippy field, fancy dress (space theme this year) etc, etc. We enjoyed some great bands (The Zutons, Gentleman's Dub Club, Ash, The Charlatans, Kasabian) and missed others (The Levellers, Pendulum, Orbital) due to how late they took the stage (22:30-0:00). We all had a great time and also couldn't wait to get home to have a hot shower and not use another festival toilet ever again! Short video montage of the best bits...
